INTERNATIONAL RAILWAY SYSTEMS WINS MULTI MILLION EURO CONTRACT TO SUPPLY NEW 95m³ Zacns TANK WAGONS TO GATX Rail Europe
 
International Railway Systems (“IRS”), the European leader in freight railcar manufacturing, has been awarded an order to supply hundreds of new freight wagons to GATX Rail Europe (“GATX”).
 
Under the contract, IRS will provide several hundred of its brand new 95m³ tank wagons certified to the latest TSI requirements to GATX in 2009 and 2010 with options for additional wagons.

There has been substantial speculation and discussion regarding the wagon that was derailed and had its cargo released in the Viareggio accident. GATX Rail Europe would like to provide the following clarifying points regarding this wagon:

1. The wagon was originally assembled and built in GATX Rail Europe’s facility in Ostroda, Poland in December 2004. This wagon was manufactured under the authority of the German governmental rail regulatory approval body, completely in accordance with the German and European industry standards, and the wagon is registered in Germany. At five years of age, the wagon is younger than an estimated 80% of the entire European rail cargo wagon fleet.

Statement from GATX Rail Europe

GATX Rail Europe is working with Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) to understand the basis upon which FS has suspended the use of our wagons in Italy.  While we believe there is no information to support such an action, in a cooperative spirit we will work diligently with FS.
