GATX Rail Europe has signed a contract with Rosneft Deutschland (RDG) for the supply of 450 new tank cars of GATX type 1698, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
The tank cars will be delivered in three batches, beginning in September 2026 and continuing in line with production schedules. The final railcars are expected to enter service by the end of Q2 2027.
Supporting Europe’s Fuel Supply Chain
Manufactured by Duro Dakovic, Tatravagonka, and WSO (GATX Rail Europe’s in-house workshop in Ostróda, Poland), the new tank cars will be commissioned at the PCK refinery in Schwedt, Germany. The fleet will primarily transport gasoline, diesel, and other light petroleum products from PCK, MiRO, and Bayernoil to customer storage terminals across Germany and Europe.
Growing a Long-Term Partnership
RDG is an established GATX customer whose strategic importance continues to grow. Following this fleet expansion, the company will become one of GATX Rail Europe’s largest customers.
“The expansion of our fleet strengthens our long-term transportation capacity and supports the reliable supply of petroleum products to our customers. We are pleased to continue our successful partnership with GATX,” says Jan Stephan, Supply & Marketing Director at RDG.
Jörg Nowaczyk, CCO at GATX Rail Europe, adds, “We are pleased to further strengthen our relationship with Rosneft Deutschland through this significant fleet expansion. The new railcars will support efficient and reliable transportation of petroleum products while contributing to the resilience of essential logistics networks.”
