Telematics: Why GATX Chooses a Collaborative Approach

“We are aware that we may not win the industry-wide telematics race in terms of timing, but we plan to win it in terms of quality,” says Johann Feindert, CEO at GATX Rail Europe, adding, “this is why we have chosen to take a collaborative approach together with equipment suppliers and, most importantly, with our customers. Telematics is a trifecta-balancing-act of technology, data processing and market acceptance… all important reasons why collaboration is critical and will result in a quality product and outcome."
The Trifecta-Balancing-Act = Quality
Let’s take a brief look at these factors. Choosing the right technology for a telematics solution is essential to enhance the longevity of the solution as well as its interoperability. It is equally important to take a close look at data processing, because a wrong turn here can negatively impact the customer which is unacceptable to GATX. Last but not least we draw big attention to safety. All GPS devices we use have the highest ATEX certification currently available on the market. Finally, markt acceptance is a key ingredient to the successful deployment of telematics, because we are dealing with a wide spectrum of readiness for telematics solutions… For some a telematics solution couldn’t come soon enough, but others need more time for various reasons.
More to Come
A telematics series in our future newsletters awaits. In the coming months, we will provide a telematics series with deep-dives centered around equipment technology, our thoughts on data processing and market acceptance as well as use case updates to give you the full picture of our telematics journey in the effort to keep our promise of #makingrailcarleasingeasier.
