Twenty years ago, the companies KVG in Vienna, KVG in Hamburg, and DEC in Warsaw combined to become GATX Rail Europe. It all started with a simple conviction: pair a high-quality railcar fleet with real technical expertise and service that businesses in Europe can count on.

Two decades later, that conviction has grown into a company trusted across Europe. GRE now operates a fleet of nearly 40,000 railcars, 300 people, and serves more than 270 customers who rely on us every day.

Proud of the Journey
This anniversary is not only about growth. It is also about how we reached this point. A dedicated team, including several colleagues who have been here since the beginning, shaped a company where safety, knowledge, and customer relationships are as essential as steel and wheels. Staying competitive in Europe’s freight landscape requires more than supplying railcars. It means anticipating what customers need next: shorter lead times, modern workshops, telematics that add real value, and support grounded in deep industry insight.
